A man suspected of murder in Maryland was arrested in Philadelphia after a traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase late Sunday night.
The incident unfolded around 11:20 p.m. when police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Vice Street.
What started as a routine traffic stop quickly escalated once officers ran the plates and discovered that the driver was wanted for a murder committed just the day before.
Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace revealed that the suspect was driving a vehicle belonging to the murder victim.
Realizing the severity of the situation, officers tried to apprehend the suspect, but he sped off, leading police on a chase through Philadelphia streets.
The pursuit ended on Castor Avenue when the suspect crashed the vehicle, causing damage to multiple parked cars and even a police patrol car.
Both the driver and a passenger in the vehicle were immediately transported to local hospitals for treatment. Thankfully, no other individuals were harmed during the chase and crash.
Following the arrest, the suspect is expected to be extradited to Maryland to face murder charges.
