If you’re in New York State, it’s time to check your fridge. Another recall has been issued for potentially harmful produce, and it could impact your health.

Church Brothers, LLC has voluntarily recalled over 1,200 cases of green onions.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that these green onions may be contaminated with salmonella, posing a health risk, especially to children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that causes stomach issues and fever, commonly referred to as salmonellosis.

This illness can spread when food handlers don’t properly wash their hands or clean surfaces and tools used during food prep.

It can also come from consuming raw or undercooked food, or through contact with animals that carry the bacteria.

The affected green onions were distributed across New York and other states, including Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia.

These products were sold under various brand names, including Trader Joe’s, Church Brothers, and Imperial Fresh.

The contamination was discovered through routine testing by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Here are the specific products involved in the recall:

  • Trader Joe’s: Green Onions Iceless (Pack Date: 09/25/24, Lot Code: CB272378)
  • Church Brothers: Green Onions Iceless 4x2lb (Lot Code: CB272378)
  • Imperial Fresh: Green Onions Iceless 4x2lb (Lot Code: CB272378)

If you have any of these products at home, do not eat them. Instead, you can return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund, or simply throw them away.
