NEW YORK — Police are searching for a man who allegedly beat and tried to steal the purse of a woman who wouldn’t give him money at a subway station near Prospect Park in Brooklyn.

The 22-year-old victim was standing on the Manhattan-bound 4 platform at the Franklin Avenue/Botanic Garden station in Crown Heights around 1:10 a.m. Monday, when the man demanded cash from her.

When she refused, he punched her multiple times in the head, causing her to fall to the ground, police said.

He then tried to take her purse but was unsuccessful and fled on foot, according to cops.

The victim suffered several injuries and was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County in stable condition.
