The California Highway Patrol reported that all eastbound lanes of Highway 24 in Orinda were stopped Monday morning due to a vehicle fire within the Caldecott Tunnel.

At 10:22 a.m., the CHP posted on social media that the fire was located inside the tunnel’s right bore. According to officials, traffic through the right bore was blocked for around two hours.

The CHP reported at 10:36 a.m. that the right bore was still closed, but Bore #2, the eastbound left bore, had been reopened.

According to the Oakland Fire Department, teams from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District and their own were present at the scene.

According to Oakland Fire, the car fire in the tunnel has been put out as of 10:41 a.m., and no casualties have been reported. According to a social media post by Oakland Fire, Caltrans has begun the tow operation to move the car out of the middle of Bore #1 around 11:19 a.m.

Second update: @CaltransD4 is already beginning the tow operation to remove the car from the center of Bore 1’s eastbound route. OFD crews and partner agencies did a great job safely mitigating the event. *At 957 AM, the first call was placed. No more information. This link: https://t.co/0LaALK9Qxp
