President Donald Trump pardoned a Missouri lady earlier this month for her involvement in the January 6, 2021 attacks on the US Capitol, but she was recently sentenced to prison for a drunk driving accident that claimed one life.
In 2022, Emily Hernandez, 25, was almost twice the legal alcohol limit when she drove up the wrong side of the Missouri highway, causing an accident with a car carrying two passengers who had just celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary, according to KSDK.
The collision claimed the life of the driver, Victoria Wilson, 32, and injured her husband, Ryan E. Wilson.
Hernandez was driving on Interstate 44 in the wrong direction for a number of miles prior to the collision, and his blood alcohol content was.125. Hernandez was traveling at around 60 mph on the highway in the wrong direction, according to a truck driver who saw the crash.
She received ten years in prison for killing Victoria and seven years for hurting Ryan. Hernandez will serve both terms at the same time.
Five days before Hernandez entered a guilty plea to charges related to her involvement on January 6, 2022, the accident happened on January 5, 2022.
Video footage from the Capitol riots in 2021 shows Hernandez stealing a sign from the office of then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. For her involvement in the rioting, she received a sentence of 45 days in prison and a $500 fine; however, President Trump pardoned her, voiding the punishment.
Nevertheless, following the federal pardon, Hernandez was brought back to court in Franklin County, Missouri, to face her drunk driving charges.
I will always be ashamed of what I did because it was unholy. Hernandez stated at her sentencing, “I am sorry for what I did, and if I could do it all over again, I would,” according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
I think about [her death] the last thing at night and the first thing in the morning. According to Victoria Wilson’s mother, “I lost a piece of myself when I lost Vickie.”
