On Saturday, Thrive City, the plaza outside Chase Center, will activate the district’s first entertainment zone and light what it claims is the largest tree in the Bay Area, at 90 feet tall.

The 11-acre community gathering area is one of several unique locations where patrons can purchase drinks to-go from nearby eateries and bars in an open-air common area.

3:30 to 5:30 p.m. is when the Winter Wonderland tree lighting event will take place at 1 Warriors Way. Modern R&B favorite Montell Jordan will play live as part of the celebrations, and Warriors icon and current TV commentator Festus Ezeli will make a special appearance.

From 6 to 9 p.m., a video screen will broadcast the Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns game.

One of San Francisco’s four recently established entertainment zones, Thrive City permits bars and restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages for customers to take to-go.

Cities were able to establish these zones in order to boost economic activity and hold more public events thanks to legislation written by state senator Scott Wiener, a Democrat from San Francisco.

Since opening this fall, the city’s Financial District entertainment district on Front Street has held two well-liked events: an Oktoberfest festival and a costumed Halloween street party.

According to Mayor London Breed, the entertainment zones were a crucial component of the city’s downtown revitalization plan.

For watch parties, concerts, holidays, and other occasions, the Thrive City Arena Entertainment Zone is turned on during Warriors and Valkyries basketball games. The Chase Center website offers a comprehensive list of Winter Wonderland activities, including ice skating.
