Due to a potential Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (E. coli) O121:H19 infection, 4Earth Farms recalled several brands of Organic Vegetable Medley, Conventional Vegetable Medley, and Organic Whole Carrots on November 26.
According to the US Food and Drug Administration, the bacterium can infect small children, the elderly, and persons with compromised immune systems, leading to serious and occasionally deadly diseases. The symptoms could range from severe cramping in the stomach, diarrhea, fever, nausea, and/or vomiting to high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, and neurological issues.
Only the carrots used in the Organic Whole Carrot products and medleys are impacted by the recall. As of Monday, December 2, no infections have been detected. Sprouts Farmers Market, Walmart, and Albert’s Organics stores nationwide, including those in California and six other states, received recalled products (listed on fda.gov).
Consumers who have already bought one of the recalled products are being advised by health officials to throw it away right away and refrain from eating it. Additionally, consumers should wipe any counters that the recalled carrots have come into contact with and be cautious about bacteria spreading to their surfaces.
Please contact 4Earth Farms at 855-918-1706, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. PT, if you have any questions. Visit the FDA’s official recall website for additional details and images of the recalled products.
