During his career, Stephen Curry had a unique style of play. It was a part of the Golden State Warriors’ terrible night.
The Warriors fell down by 57 points in their 144-93 defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night after Curry failed to make a basket in his 24 minutes of play, the first time in his 16-year career that he has played that many minutes without a basket.
Curry stated, “We ran into a buzz saw,” “Clearly, we are aware that we are superior to it. I must be superior to that.
Both the final margin of 51 points and the deficit of 57 points were the biggest in the NBA this season.
Coach Steve Kerr remarked, “You lose by 51, that’s humbling,” following his team’s ninth consecutive defeat in its previous 11 games. The squad began the season 12-3.
Curry missed all six of his 3-point attempts and finished 0 for 7. Curry was 0 for 1 once, 0 for 2 once, 0 for 3 once, and 0 for 4 once, marking just the fifth time in his career that he has attempted a shot in a game but failed to make a field goal.
Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins remarked, “He’s one of the toughest covers in the NBA’s history.”
But not on Thursday.
Curry remarked, “That was embarrassing,”
The Warriors had only lost a regular-season game by more than 50 points five times in their existence. Three of those losses—53 to Toronto at Tampa, Florida in 2021, 52 at Boston on March 3, and Thursday’s 51-point defeat—have occurred in the previous five years.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ 63-point defeat in 1972 stands as the team’s regular-season record. at 1962, the Philadelphia Warriors suffered a 51-point defeat at Boston.
Kerr remarked, “It wasn’t any of our nights,” “Including mine.”
Prior to Thursday, Curry and Draymond Green had never combined for zero field goals in a game where they both participated.
“There’s a first time for everything, right?” Curry stated.
Together, Andrew Wiggins and Brandin Podziemski made 15 of Golden State’s 24 shots. Dennis Schroder went 2 for 12 in his Golden State debut, while the rest of the Warriors hit 17 of 66, or 25.8%. Jonathan Kuminga made two of twelve shots as well.
Over the past six seasons, the Warriors have now fallen behind by at least 45 points in at least one game.
Grizzlies guard Ja Morant stated, “Once we’re all locked in defensively, you see what type of team we can be.”
This season, the Grizzlies now hold the two largest NBA victory margins. On November 10, they defeated Portland by 45.
In addition, Memphis won Game 5 of the 2022 Western Conference semifinals by 39 points, leading Golden State by 55. The Warriors won the NBA championship that season after winning that series in six games.
“I am aware of who we are. “I understand the values of our team,” Kerr remarked. “I am aware that we have rivals, but I also know that we will recover and reorganize. I’m not worried about it, then. However, we still have a lot of work to do in order to understand how to perform well under pressure, handle the ball, and make effective shots.”
