After fatally shooting his nine-year-old autistic son at their Los Angeles home, a father has been placed under arrest.
After detectives found that Nicholas Jones, 32, killed his son Princeton, he was taken into custody and charged with murder and child abuse resulting in death on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.
At 7:30 p.m. on November 30, authorities were called to a residence on South Haskins Avenue in Compton where a person had been shot. The child was found by officers with a gunshot wound in his garden. The sheriff’s office reports that he was declared deceased at the scene.
According to papers, Jones was arrested on December 1 at the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station and is presently being held on a $2 million bond.
Tuesday is the father’s next scheduled court appearance. According to the sheriff’s office, the incident is still being investigated.
In the wake of the tragedy, Princeton’s family has created a GoFundMe page.
According to his family, the two-year-old child had a loving heart and a sharp mind despite having a slight case of autism.
With his infectious smile and sense of humor, Princeton brought joy to every space he entered. They stated that his friends, family, and community all loved him and appreciated the wonderful person he was becoming. Our family is saddened by this terrible act and is still looking for answers as the investigation continues.
In just two days, the event raised about $38,000. According to the family, all donations will go toward paying for family expenses and making sure Princeton is honored and remembered in a way that captures the pleasure and love he brought into the world.
The gunshot happened outside his grandfather’s house, the young boy’s mother, Creole Green, told ABC7. “I’m devastated that his life was cut short,” she said.
“My objective was to provide him with the necessary instruction and everything he would require to be able to navigate this world on his own one day,” Green told the news agency. The fact that my nine-year-old son’s life was cut out in front of him just breaks my heart.
