The jury that will determine Nima Momeni’s fate will meet again on Monday for its seventh day of deliberations.

Momeni is charged with the April 2023 murder of tech executive Bob Lee.

“I believe that the jury’s lengthy deliberations are a positive thing. Shannan Dugan, a lawyer who has watched the case from the courtroom, said, “It means they understand the gravity of the situation.” They don’t want to convict a man of murder if he didn’t commit it, but they also don’t want to let a murderer off the hook. Therefore, I believe that the jury’s lengthy deliberations demonstrate their appreciation for their work.

Jurors have had a lot to process during the trial, according to Dugan.

“This jury might be at a standstill. That could be a contributing factor to the length of time this is taking,” she said.

Prosecutors disputeBecause of an event involving Lee and his sister, Momeni became enraged and attacked Lee. Momeni and his defense team contend that he was defending himself when Lee attacked him.

According to Dugan, even though Momeni is charged with first-degree murder, the jury can find him not guilty of the crime but yet find him guilty of another one.

“He’s charged with first degree murder, which requires premeditation, but there are also what are called lesser included offenses which are second degree murder and manslaughter,” she continued. “If he planned to stab Bob Lee without any legal reason but lacked that premeditation, that is second degree murder. They could convict him of manslaughter if he acted spontaneously or out of passion but without any type of planning or premeditation.

There would be a mistrial and the case would have to be retried with a new jury if the jury was unable to reach a consensus.

The judge had established a hardship date of December 12 at the start of the trial, which allowed jurors to depart and resume their regular lives. In order to get a unanimous decision, however, jurors asked for additional time late last week and all agreed to remain. They will meet again at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

“I believe they will return with something. “I think they’re going to return with something,” Dugan remarked, “but who knows exactly what they’re doing in that jury room.” “I think they wanted to give all of the other jurors time to truly consider their choices and sleep on it, which is why they’re returning at 1:30.” I’m not sure if the jury will return with a guilty conviction, an acquittal, or a hung jury, but I have a feeling they’ll do so on Monday.”
