As an alternative to congested shops and malls, the East Bay Regional Park District is providing free admission to over 70 parks on Black Friday for the tenth year in a row.
“Green Friday” is a day when all admission and activity fees, including those for parking, dogs, horses, boat launches, and fishing, are waived at the district’s parks in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. On Friday, there will also be no admission fees to Fremont’s Ardenwood Historic Farm.
“Green Friday is a fun and healthy way to enjoy the day after Thanksgiving,” said Dave Mason, the district’s public information supervisor. “We believe no one can beat our prices on Friday because it’s free!”
State costs for fishing licenses, watercraft inspections, and concessionaires like the Redwood Valley Railway steam train at Tilden Park or the Tilden Merry-Go-Round are not covered by Friday’s fee waiver.
Additionally, the district has announced drop-in events at a number of locations, such as tours at the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve near Antioch and children’s story times at the Ardenwood Historic Farm and Crown Beach in Alameda. The district website has a complete schedule of events.
The East Bay Regional Park District is the largest regional park system in the country, with 73 parks, 55 miles of shoreline, and over 1,330 miles of trails.
