A popular chicken wing joint in Florida, Lemon Peppers, was recently shut down after a state inspection found 18 violations at its Miami location.
While Florida might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of chicken wings, this restaurant has built a strong following.
Lemon Peppers is known for its world-famous secret lemon pepper seasoning, which helped it gain popularity in South Florida.
The restaurant has been reviewed more than 2,100 times on Google, earning an impressive 4 out of 5 stars.
Many customers praise the food, especially the chicken tenders, boneless wings, and the variety of flavors offered.
However, things took a turn for the worse during a recent inspection on October 14, 2024.
The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation found a total of 18 violations, ranging from basic to high-priority issues.
Some of the more basic violations included a ceiling vent that was soiled with a black substance, food stored on crates, broken floor tiles, and strong odors coming from the walk-in cooler.
There were also issues with flour bins not being properly labeled.
The intermediate violations were mostly related to health and safety protocols, such as the lack of state-approved employee training and no paper towels available at the handwashing sink.
More concerning were the high-priority violations, which included the presence of live roaches, improper handling of chicken by a cook, and banana pudding being kept at an unsafe temperature.
As a result of these violations, Lemon Peppers was temporarily shut down.
After a follow-up inspection on October 15, 2024, nine of the violations were still present, but none posed an immediate threat to public safety, so the restaurant was allowed to reopen.

Another follow-up inspection is scheduled to ensure that the remaining issues are addressed.
It’s important to note that inspections provide a snapshot of a restaurant’s conditions at a specific moment in time and do not necessarily reflect its day-to-day operations.
For fans of Lemon Peppers, this news may be disappointing, but the restaurant has the opportunity to make improvements and continue serving its loyal customers in the future.
