Those who construct the parade floats are working on the final details as San Francisco gets ready for its yearly Chinese New Year Festival and Parade, which honors the Year of the Snake.
Lacey Bryant remarked, “It’s really cool that there is so much hand-built artwork on display,”
Bryant has been making sculptures for the parade floats for the past ten years.
“Every animal is going to teach me something new,” she stated.
Additionally, making for the Year of the Snake has undoubtedly provided educational chances.
“This one was kind of a challenge because it had to float most of its body up in the air,” she added, gesturing to a complex pattern. Thus, it only makes a few areas of contact with the float. It’s actually a pretty cool sculpture.
For the procession, she will create about a dozen sculptures. She will be able to carve each one in a few days to a week. Some are fairly large, while others are little.
“This particular one is 9 feet this way, 6 feet this way, and 8 feet this way,” she continued.
According to Bryant, she enjoys working on big projects like the ones in the parade.
“The procedure is enjoyable. “I feel like I have to solve a puzzle,” she remarked. “They get to be big and exciting, and I like that.”
The largest Lunar New Year celebration outside of Asia is San Francisco’s Chinese New Year Parade.
The quantity of women’s and men’s labor that goes into the design, construction, installation, and embellishment “A very talented group of people put in a huge, huge effort,” said Stephanie Mufson, owner of the Parade Guys, the firm that makes the floats. “They’re something that we put so much love and effort into this, just seeing it bring the joy to all the people around is really gratifying and rewarding.”
That is only one of the numerous reasons Lacey continues to produce.
“Being a part of it is fantastic. “This is a really significant event for the city and the local community,” she said.
She becomes really happy when she sees people smiling at her works during parade time.
“Oh, it’s amazing. Nothing truly compares to it,” she remarked.
