Gas leak at Oakland fueling station shuts down area, prompts evacuations

The Oakland Fire Department reported that multiple buildings were evacuated on Tuesday due to a gas leak at a fueling station in Oakland.

A compressed natural gas leak occurred at a station on 2nd Street, between Market and Brush streets, according to Oakland Fire.

A filling station on 2nd St between Market & Brush is leaking compressed natural gas, and OFD is on the scene. From Embarcadero West to 3rd St along MLK and Embarcadero West to 3rd along Market, there is a 3- to 4-block closure of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Firefighters blocked off a three- to four-block area to prevent vehicles from moving, including cars. Embarcadero West to Third Street along Market and Embarcadero West to Third Street along MLK were closed.

Four buildings were also evacuated.
