Additional charges have been brought against a prison officer in Hamilton County who is suspected of bringing illegal items into the jail.
Richard Sampson was indicted on Friday on a number of crimes, including aggravated drug trafficking, fentanyl trafficking, illicit drug conveyance, and drug possession.
Sampson, a correctional services deputy, was taken into custody by authorities earlier this month.
According to the judge at Sampson’s arraignment, he was employed as a prison officer in spite of having a criminal history in Kentucky and Indiana that included charges of larceny, OVI, and gun ownership.
In this case, Edward Thompson was also indicted by the grand jury on the same counts.
Sampson allegedly carried a cell phone and paper with traces of xylazine and fentanyl into the jail to give to an inmate, according to investigators.
Conspiracy is another indictment against both men.
