A Yonkers woman, identified as 47-year-old Tara Walencik, has been arrested for driving under the influence and has lost custody of her two young children following the incident.

The event occurred early Sunday morning in Mount Vernon, when officers tried to stop her vehicle on the Cross County Parkway.

Instead of pulling over, Walencik continued driving, which forced police to use multiple units to block her vehicle near Sawmill Parkway in Yonkers.

Authorities reported that when they finally stopped the car, Walencik failed a sobriety test, confirming she was driving while intoxicated.

Additionally, her two children, aged 8 and 6, were in the car with her during the incident.

Police noted that the children were not wearing seat belts and were inadequately dressed for the cold weather at the time.

The situation escalated as Child Protective Services (CPS) got involved, taking immediate custody of the children.

Walencik now faces charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated, which is a more serious charge due to the presence of the children in the vehicle.

This case highlights the ongoing concerns regarding driving under the influence, especially when children’s safety is at risk.

Authorities stress the importance of keeping children safe by not only ensuring they are properly secured in a vehicle but also by avoiding any impaired driving that could lead to tragic consequences.
