The Golden State Warriors defeated the Detroit Pistons 107-104 on Thursday night thanks to 19 points from Buddy Hield.

After losing two straight home games—against Miami by 16 points and to Sacramento by 30 points—Golden State finally secured a much-needed win.

It wasn’t simple.

Malik Beasley missed a 3-pointer right before the buzzer that would have forced OT, but the Warriors were ahead 18 points.

Cade Cunningham of Detroit finished with 32 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds. Despite missing 10 of his 14 3-point attempts, Beasley finished with 21 points.

After winning eight of their last nine games and five in a row, the Pistons dropped to.500.

Steve Kerr, the coach of the Warriors, whose mother, 90, lost her house in the wildfires in California, claimed that his squad lacked “a competitive spirit” earlier this week and was pleased with the response in Detroit.

Golden State won because they made enough plays on both sides of the court and had a lead at the end of each quarter. The Warriors have lost 15 of their last 21 games after a 12-3 start.

Takeaways

Warriors: Some teammates came through on a night when Steph Curry had 17 points and missed the majority of his shots. Lindy Waters contributed eleven points, Dennis Schroder and Gui Santos both contributed thirteen, and Trayce Jackson-Davis finished with fourteen points and ten rebounds.

Pistons: In an attempt to make up for the scoring punch missed with Jaden Ivey out of the lineup due to a broken leg, Tobias Harris scored 13 points and Ron Holland scored 11.
