After unintentionally setting their house on fire on Sunday night, one person has been forced to leave their residence.

Crews were called to a fire on the 600 block of Hawthorne Ave. at 7:39 p.m., according to the Cincinnati Fire Department (CFD), when a man allegedly set fire to his house while using a propane torch to melt ice on his exterior steps.

According to the CFD, the fire began on the siding of the house and moved to the attic.

According to the CFD, the fire was restricted to the building’s external walls, even though smoke permeated the entire house.

Although the fire was put out by crews, the CFD calculates that $98,000 worth of damage was caused.

The fire did not result in any reported injuries.

Although the owner of the residence has been forced to relocate, he has a place to stay while his house is being repaired.

The Cincinnati Fire Department would like to advise everyone to use heating appliances with caution.
