A 31-year-old woman was taken into custody by Homestead police on Thursday on accusations of severe child abuse.

According to the arrest complaint, a 6-year-old girl with face injuries was in the office when a Homestead police detective was summoned to a school on Wednesday.

The report obtained by Local 10 News did not include the name of the school.

The youngster told her teacher that her mother, Amanda Marie Lopez, had belted her, the police said.

According to the report, the girl informed the investigator that the incident happened on Tuesday and that her mother had struck her face, ear, and shoulder with the belt.

The police said that the victim had bruises on his face, left ear, and upper left shoulder/back area.

According to the arrest report, the girl’s older sibling told police that their mother had belted their younger sister.

Lopez was taken into custody one day after the cops had a conversation with the child. One count of aggravated child abuse resulting in significant bodily harm is the charge against her.

As of Friday afternoon, she was being held on a $5,000 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

The report made no mention of who is currently caring for her children.
