I am not calling you to turn him in’: Father tells 911 he killed roommate for drugging and assaulting his daughter

After accusing his roommate of drugging and mistreating his adult daughter, a man in Nebraska called the police to report that he had shot and killed his roommate.

According to court filings, 40-year-old Rodolfo Cateura Nogueras pled not guilty in Colfax County District Court to second-degree murder in the killing of 45-year-old Ariel Varella Herrera and second-degree assault in the nonfatal gunshot of a neighbor.

According to an affidavit, the case was discovered when Colfax County dispatch got a call on April 7 at 11:29 p.m.

According to the affidavit, the Spanish-speaking caller, who was later identified as Cateura Nogueras, stated that he and his roommate had a 20-year-old daughter and that the roommate was abusing and drugging his daughter.

The officer said, “I’m calling to tell you that I shot him in the head and I killed him, not to turn him in.”

The incident happened at a storage facility in Schuyler, some 70 miles west of Omaha, he informed the dispatcher.

He claimed that although he did not meet with an officer that evening, he had wanted to speak with one face-to-face at a nearby truck stop.

Outside Unit #23, police found a.22 shell case and blood on the ground at the storage facility.

A sergeant found blood and another spent inside.shell casing for 22 caliber. The body of the victim was found wrapped in black plastic tarps in the rear of the building.

Multiple individuals were seen approaching the storage container in Varela Herrera’s Dodge Caravan at 9:33 a.m., according to video surveillance footage from a nearby company.

After that, the people are seen going into and coming out of storage unit #23 before going back to the vehicle.

Throughout the day, until the van leaves at 7:52 p.m., one man is seen outside the van, surveying the area before going inside storage unit #23.

Around 10:19 p.m., the van then makes its way back. There are many light flashes in the van with multiple persons inside, as seen in the video. After twenty minutes, a man who looks to be bleeding flees the storage facility.

That man recognized Cateura Nogueras as the gunman and proceeded to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. The injured man admitted to the authorities that he had no idea Varella Herrera was where she was.

According to the statement of facts, he claimed that Cateura Nogueras informed him that Varella Herrera was bound, which made him concerned about her.

The surviving victim also told police that he believed Cateura Nogueras attempted to kill him by shooting him twice, one bullet knocking out a tooth later discovered on the storage unit floor and another that grazed his face and went through his arm, according to court documents.

Police in Missouri used Cateura Nogueras’ cellphone to locate him in the early hours of April 8. While his phone was pinging, a deputy in Buchanan, Missouri, found a Pontiac G-6 parked in a general store parking lot. His daughter was with him.

Deputies discovered a.22 caliber Phoenix Arms handgun in the vehicle, according to court documents.

Cateura-Nogueras is scheduled to be sentenced on January 22.
