‘I put her in the icebox’: Las Vegas woman allegedly kept deceased roommate in freezer for weeks after killing her with fentanyl-laced cocaine

According to police, Jazlynn Roush, a Las Vegas woman accused of killing her 68-year-old roommate with fentanyl-laced cocaine, went about her day for about two weeks with the slain sexagenarian’s body stowed away in her freezer.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Roush’s chilling secret was revealed only after an office manager at the property where victim Monique Gilbertson’s mobile home was located noticed things like Gilbertson’s car being parked differently and her dogs barking louder than usual.

The manager called authorities on November 6 to perform a welfare check on Gilbertson after unsuccessful attempts to contact her. She had been living with Roush — who cops identified as Daniel Roush, despite her legally changing her name in Nevada’s Eighth Judicial District in 2022 — after meeting her at a Home Depot and hiring her to do handy work, according to her arrest report, which was obtained first by CBS affiliate KLAS and the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Police went to the 5500 block of Tres Piedras Road, where the couple lived, about eight miles east of the Las Vegas strip, and attempted to knock on Gilbertson’s door but received no response.

“Officers entered the home and located two individuals inside who could not provide officers with the location of the elderly female,” LVMPD officials said in a press release. “While searching the home, officers discovered a deceased female in a freezer. Both people were detained while investigators determined their involvement.

According to police, Roush’s wife had been staying at the house on and off with her and Gilbertson, and she was the other person officers met. According to the arrest report, Roush admitted to discovering Gilbertson’s death about a week before Halloween and stated that the “elderly” woman had used drugs.

Roush allegedly told police that she put Gilbertson’s body in the freezer and went about her day because she was unsure what to do. “I put her in the icebox, because I didn’t know what to do,” Roush allegedly said. “Until I could figure it out, I had her in the icebox.”

Roush refused to tell police that she had allegedly given Gilbertson cocaine laced with fentanyl, according to her criminal complaint, with prosecutors accusing her of “willfully, unlawfully, feloniously, and with malice” killing Gilbertson. received the complaint on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the arrest report, Roush’s wife contacted police and stated that she witnessed Roush giving Gilbertson fentanyl-laced cocaine. Investigators believe Roush, who describes herself on Facebook as a “trans female just trying to find [her] place in this world,” remained inside the mobile home for about two weeks while the woman’s body was frozen.

Gilbertson allegedly despised living with Roush because she neglected her belongings and frequently left drug paraphernalia out, according to their property manager, Demecia Lopez.

Lopez claimed Gilbertson told her “about how filthy Roush was” in the weeks before her death, claiming she was “upset” and had kicked Roush out, as well as changing her locks.

According to the arrest report, on October 22, Lopez stated that Gilbertson called 311 while she was with her to request that Roush’s belongings be removed, but she hung up after waiting on hold. That was allegedly the last time Lopez saw Gilbertson.

“I stayed calm, you know, I didn’t trip out on her at all,” Roush told police about their time living with Gilbertson, despite admitting to infighting and disagreements over peanut butter, according to the Review-Journal.

Roush’s wife repeatedly insisted during interviews that she had nothing to do with Gilbertson’s “murder,” according to the arrest report. The woman claimed she saw Roush give Gilbertson a line of cocaine before she overdosed in front of them.

Officers executed a warrant to search the mobile home and discovered cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl.

On Wednesday, Roush pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court again on November 28.
