According to Mayor Matt Mahan, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers carried out an operation in San Jose on Sunday.
Although Mahan had nothing more to say, he did say that the San Jose Police Department had been informed about the operation and would not be participating or any assistance.
“I sincerely hope that ICE remains focused on enforcement actions related to violent and serious criminals harming our city, not neighbors who are contributing and law-abiding members of our community,” Mahan said in a press release.
According to the Rapid Response Network, which responded to two locations in San Jose, it seemed like ICE officers were carrying out operations to carry out deportation orders that specifically targeted certain individuals.
According to a Facebook post by San Jose councilmember Peter Ortiz, ICE agents were spotted along Story and King roads as well as in the vicinity of Capitol Park.
Similar to this, other reports claimed that ICE in Chicago was concentrating on those with outstanding warrants.
ICE stated in a post on X that 956 arrests and 554 detainers were made as a result of the nationwide operations.
