The Social Security Administration (SSA) has disbursed all SSDI compensation to those who began receiving benefits prior to May 1997. They received their money on December 3 at about the same time as SSI recipients.
Additionally, if you received disability benefits after April 30, 1997, and were born between April 1 and April 30, 1997, your payment date was December 11, 2024.
All of these SSDI recipients must prepare for their January payout. The average payment will be approximately $1,580, which is $38 more than it will be in 2024, so you should be aware of that first.
You should anticipate receiving much less money if your disability payout is really low. For instance, if you receive a $500 check each month, your new amount after COLA will be $512.5.
SSDI January payment schedule
The first SSA Disability Insurance payment with a 2.5% COLA increase is due on January 3, 2025. This is the first payment of 2025 since the January SSI check will be issued on December 31, 2024.
Disability Insurance recipients will receive their next payment on January 8, 2025, following the January 3 payment. Three payments are due tomorrow. The first one is this one.
The second Wednesday payment will be deposited into the recipient’s bank account on January 15, 2025. The last and third SSDI check will be issued on January 22.
- Disability Insurance payment on January 3: if began getting SSDI before May 1997 or on SSI simultaneously

- Disability Insurance payment on January 15: born 11-20
- Disability Insurance payment on January 22: born 21-31
SSDI eligibility and possible amounts in January 2025
If an employee’s illness has prevented them from working for more than a year and they have paid enough payroll taxes, the Social Security Administration may be able to award them monthly benefits if they have a qualifying disability.
As a result, you cannot receive SSDI if you have never worked. Having sufficient labor credits is crucial. The alternative is to apply for Supplemental Security Income.
The SSDI maximum has increased from $3,822 to $4,018, the highest amount available. Disability Insurance will pay about $1,580 a month. However, each person receives a varied amount depending on their age upon filing, earnings, and work history.
