According to the authorities, a man who was 41 years old succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning after being buried under hot asphalt while attempting to repair his dump truck in Mississippi.

The victim, who has been identified as Darrell Sheriff, was a private contractor who was coming from AJ Materials in Jackson to pick up a load of asphalt when his vehicle experienced a malfunction at approximately 10:30 in the morning.

According to a statement released by the Jackson Police Department, the sheriff was working on a hydraulic line while he was underneath the truck when the tailgate opened and asphalt fell on him.

Joseph Wade, the Chief of Police, stated that there were individuals present at the scene who attempted to assist him, but they were unsuccessful.

“It is absolutely repulsive. Wade told reporters during a briefing that took place on Monday afternoon that it is a very tragic event.

A statement of condolence was also extended by the chief of police to the family of the victim.

Here at the scene, I had conversations with members of his family. They said that he was a good man, a man who worked hard, and that he was just trying to make a living, and that is just the description of so many people who live in the city of Jackson,” Wade said. For the sake of his family, let us continue to pray for them.

According to Wade, the investigation is still ongoing, but it appears that the death of the Sheriff was an accident.
