In what prosecutors called a ‘thrill kill,’ a man murdered a co-worker who was ‘like a mom’ to him

A 21-year-old man in Maine will spend several decades behind bars for stabbing a 52-year-old woman inside the liquor shop where they both worked, in what prosecutors referred to as a thrill kill.

After reviewing the documents, Law&Crime discovered that Spridal Hubiak was sentenced on Tuesday to 65 years in a state prison for the 2023 murder of Angela Bragg.

Hubiak was sentenced to prison and ordered to pay $3,959 in restitution.

According to earlier allegations made by the prosecution, Hubiak, who was much younger, developed an obsession with Bragg and wanted to have sex with her.

Surveillance footage shows that after locking the doors of the liquor store, Hubiak crept up behind Bragg and repeatedly stabbed her in the neck.

After a few days of eluding capture, the black Taurus was found in a parking lot by a Flippin Police Department officer in Flippin, Arkansas, a town located almost 1,600 miles west of Waterville. Hubiak was asleep in the car when the officer arrived. There was a chase.

Hubiak escaped west on Highway 412 toward Boone County, where he was chased by Flippin Police and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from Boone County swiftly stepped in and deployed spike strips in coordination with Arkansas State Police.

According to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit continued until it reached the crossroads of Highway 65 and 412, where the driver turned into a nearby private business, despite the spike strips partially disabling the suspect’s car.

The suspect was carrying an AR-style rifle as he got out of the car, so a Boone County deputy pulled out his gun and hit the guy. The injured suspect was swiftly taken from the car by the responding officers, who also started emergency first assistance at the spot.

Hubiak was taken by EMS to North Arkansas Regional Medical Center for medical attention. After stabilizing Hubiak, medical staff flew him to a hospital in Green County, Missouri, by Life Flight because of the extent of his injuries.

The officials merely stated that they anticipated Hubiak to survive, without providing any other information regarding the incident or his condition.
