Ithaca man charged with smashing wife with cinderblock then stabbing her to death

An Ithaca man is facing charges after allegedly brutally killing his wife inside their apartment. The attack began as she slept early Monday morning.

According to Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten, the couple’s four children were present in the apartment at the time.

The violent attack began around 5:30 a.m. Monday in an apartment on South Plain Street near the Cornell University campus.

“I have a female who was hit in the head with a brick (inaudible) received female hit in the head.” The 911 dispatchers’ audio was captured on Broadcastify.

According to court documents obtained by CNY Central, Ahmed Abed, 43, used a cinderblock to smash his wife’s head while she was sleeping.

Court documents show that Alaa Husein Jeena Abedi awoke after the initial attack and began yelling in an attempt to defend herself.

According to investigators, the gruesome attack continued when Abed pulled a kitchen knife from his pocket and repeatedly stabbed her in the upper body and neck.

When police arrested Abed, they claim he confessed to the killing. When asked what happened the night of the incident, Abed allegedly told police, “I intended to kill my wife.”

DA Van Houten tells CNY Central that the couple’s four children were inside the apartment when their mother was murdered.

He says the children range in age from 11 to 18, but he won’t say what motivates them right now.
