After an investigation found that the deputy mayor of Los Angeles had threatened to attack City Hall earlier this year, he was placed on leave.
As part of an investigation into a bomb threat against City Hall in September, the FBI raided the home of LA Deputy Mayor Brian Williams in Pasadena, California, on Tuesday, according to FOX 11 in Los Angeles. During the search, the FBI did not make any arrests.
The office of LA Mayor Karen Bass released a statement regarding Williams’ absence on Wednesday.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, LA Deputy Mayor of Communications Zach Seidl stated the Mayor’s Office was informed that the FBI investigated Deputy Mayor Brian Williams’ residence yesterday as part of an investigation into a bomb threat he allegedly made against City Hall earlier this year. He was placed on administrative leave right away. This issue is taken very seriously by the mayor.
Seidl added that the Los Angeles Police Department looked into the threat after it was reported and found the structure was not in immediate danger.
The LAPD referred the matter to the FBI after conducting additional investigation.
According to a police statement, an investigation found that Williams was most likely the threat’s origin.
According to the LAPD, the FBI was tasked with handling the case because of their professional relationship with Mr. Williams. The FBI continues to be the investigative body.
No other details about the ongoing inquiry were disclosed.
Williams began working in the Bass office in March 2023, according to the station, and was given responsibility for liaising with the fire, police, and other important safety agencies.
He spent seven years as the executive director of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission prior to taking a position in the mayor’s office.
