After reportedly shooting someone at a homeless shelter in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco last weekend, a 29-year-old man was charged with attempted murder.
According to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, Taylor Reed and the victim got into a confrontation at around 6:30 p.m. on January 4 when they were waiting in line at a shelter in the 500 block of Fifth Street.
Reed allegedly produced a semi-automatic weapon when shelter officials separated them. According to the prosecution, the victim was able to shove a shelter employee up the stairs and out of danger. The victim was then allegedly shot at close range by Reed.
According to a statement from the district attorney’s office, “the victim attempted to run up the stairs but slipped and fell to the ground where he was shot again, allegedly by Mr. Reed who left the area.”
The person was rushed to a hospital in critical condition once police arrived. After returning to the shelter, Reed was taken into custody without incident.
Reed is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on January 23.
