A tragic domestic violence incident in Yorktown, New York, ended in the death of 63-year-old Geraldine Krecmer and the suicide of the suspect, 51-year-old Salvatore Ciniglio, on Saturday night.

Police were called to the Coach ‘N Four apartment complex in Jefferson Valley after receiving a report of domestic violence. Upon arrival, they found Krecmer lying on the walkway with a gunshot wound. Authorities believe Ciniglio confronted Krecmer when she returned home that evening, fatally shooting her.

Ciniglio, who had a strained relationship with Krecmer’s daughter and shared a child with her, fled the scene after the attack. Authorities quickly identified him as the suspect and initiated a manhunt. Shortly after, a shelter-in-place warning was issued to Yorktown residents as police worked to locate Ciniglio.

Manhunt and Tragic End

Within hours, New York Police Department officers located a vehicle believed to be driven by Ciniglio in the Bronx. They pursued the car, but before they could make an arrest, Ciniglio shot himself. He was later taken to a hospital but succumbed to the self-inflicted wound.

This devastating incident has rocked the community, with Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman expressing condolences and offering support to Krecmer’s family. He commended the efforts of local and state law enforcement agencies that helped with the investigation.

The police investigation revealed that Ciniglio may have been living in a multi-family home in Ardsley, though his exact residence was unclear. Authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and the series of events leading to Ciniglio’s death.
