A guy has retracted his plea after being charged with triggering a collision that killed a local township trustee over two years ago.
Franklin resident Bryan Day, 31, was scheduled to stand trial today on charges connected to the deadly collision in April 2023.
According to Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records, that did not happen because he signed a plea deal.
Day entered a guilty plea to one count of reckless homicide and one count of aggravated vehicular homicide, according to court filings made Monday morning.
Later this month, Day will receive a 12-month prison sentence as part of the plea agreement. Additionally, his license will be suspended for at least three years.
The accusations are related to an accident that happened close to the intersection of Dryden Road and E. Dixie Drive in April 2023.
Day was traveling east in the passing lane of E, according to a crash report from the West Carrollton Police Department.
He crossed the designated lane on Dixie Road at a high speed and struck the rear of a 2017 Toyota Camry that was waiting to turn left.
The Toyota’s driver, Mark Campbell, 44, perished in the collision. As News Center 7 has reported, Campbell was a trustee for Ross Township.
The crash report states that Day’s blood test showed that he had THC in his system.
Day looked to be saying something while perched atop the truck in a video that was uploaded to the internet following the collision.
On February 12, Day will be formally sentenced.
