Man who paralyzed his ex-girlfriend and injured her mother in a stabbing sentenced to life in prison: ‘I Need Serious Help’

The Florida guy will be imprisoned for the rest of his life for stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her mother last summer.

At a sentencing hearing on Friday, November 22, Spencer Ross Pearson received a life sentence, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

In July, Pearson entered a guilty plea to two counts of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury with a weapon and attempted first-degree murder with a weapon.

On June 3, 2023, Pearson stabbed three individuals outside a restaurant in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, leading to his arrest. At the moment, he was eighteen.

Madison Schemitz, Pearson’s ex-girlfriend, was one of the victims. It was then determined that before to the incident, he had been harassing and stalking the then-17-year-old.

Additionally, Pearson stabbed Kennedy Armstrong, a third victim, and Schemitz’s mother, Jaclyn Jacki Roge, when she tried to defend her daughter.

Investigators say that after intervening and rendering Pearson incapacitated until police arrived, Armstong suffered severe hand injuries, but not before the attacker slitted his own throat in an attempt to end his life.

Authorities claim that Pearson stabbed Schemitz about 15 times, knocked her down, and attacked her from behind. The teenager was paralyzed from the chest down after suffering severe injuries. She was a standout softball player at Ponte Vedra High School.

Schemitz, a freshman in college, endured extensive physical therapy and was able to walk across the stage to collect her high school diploma less than a year after being attacked, according to the SJSO.

According to courtroom footage made public by WJXT, Pearson told the judge before his sentencing that he wants to accept responsibility for his conduct and offer the three victims his heartfelt apologies.

According to Pearson, June 3 was undoubtedly the worst day of their life. In addition, it was and always will be the most depressing day of my life. I hurt three innocent persons on this day. I think about the terrible things I did every single second of the day. I’m constantly thinking about it, and I won’t stop.

I need serious help, and I have for a long time, he stated.

Schemitz made her own statement when he was imprisoned. As we move forward, our focus is on healing and rebuilding. This chapter, while difficult, is now behind us, she stated in footage aired by local channel WJXT. And even though it will take time, we are determined to go with courage and hope.

“The journey is far from over for me,” Schemitz continued. There are still many steps to take, problems to face, and lessons to learn, but with the help of those who have stood by me, I am convinced that I will continue to grow stronger every day.

What comes next is finding peace, accepting the future, and using the power I ve gained to assist others who may face similar challenges.
