Following a fire at the Martinez refinery on Sunday, Contra Costa Health said a public health advisory is still in effect.

Martinez, portions of Pacheco, and Clyde are under the advisory. As the smoke from the fire clears, anyone with respiratory sensitivities should remain indoors and keep windows closed, according to Contra Costa Health.

The Martinez Refining Company, operated by PBF Energy, notified Contra Costa Health of the fire at 1:49 p.m. The community warning system classified the incident as a level 2 alert, prompting the issuance of a public health advise.

At 4:48 p.m., it was classified as a level 3 alert, and local residents were told to stay indoors. The directive remained in force until 9:12 p.m.

As of 11 a.m. Sunday, Contra Costa Health reported that the refinery’s fire was largely extinguished.

At least six people were hurt in the fire on Saturday. According to Ted Leach, a captain in the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, three persons were released and four were transported to a hospital for treatment on Saturday. According to him, two more were treated on the spot and then let go.
