The judges’ scorecards from Mike Tyson’s highly anticipated fight against Jake Paul sparked little controversy after the panel voted unanimously in favor of the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

On Friday, Paul – or rather Father Time – easily defeated Tyson in front of 70,000 fans at AT&T Stadium.

Despite both fighters’ promises that the watershed event would not go the distance, the fight lasted all eight two-minute rounds.

When the judge’s scorecards were reviewed for the official decision, all three officials ruled in Paul’s favor. Judge David Iacobucci scored the fight 80-72, while Jessee Reyes and Laurence Cole both scored it 79-73.

Looking at the final punch statistics, it’s clear why the judges made the decision they did. Paul landed 78 of his 278 punches, finishing the fight at 28%, whereas Tyson only connected on 18 of 97 shots (18%).

Tyson began the first round of Friday’s fight aggressively, as he has done throughout his illustrious career, attempting to dispel any doubts about his age.

After the 58-year-old landed a left jab and an overhand right to push Paul back, thousands of fans began chanting his name from the rafters.

Tyson appeared to be out of energy by the second round, having expended the majority of it in the first minute of the fight.

For much of the rest of the fight, he could be seen breathing heavily and trying to find a second wind, occasionally biting down on his gloves while grimacing in pain.

With Tyson seemingly at odds with himself for much of the night, Paul appeared to ease off the gas in the final rounds out of respect for one of the sport’s all-time greats.

After the fight, the 27-year-old heaped praise on his opponent, saying, “He’s a legend.” He’s the best to ever do it. He is the greatest of all-time.

I look up to him. I am inspired by him, and we would not be where we are today without him. This man is an icon, and it’s an honor to be able to fight him.

He’s obviously the toughest, baddest man on the planet, so it was as tough as I expected.”

During the post-fight interview inside the ring, Tyson told announcer Ariel Helwani that he was pleased with his performance. “I didn’t prove anything to anyone, only to myself,” the ‘Baddest Man on The Planet’ said when asked if he thought he proved his doubters wrong by going eight rounds.

“I’m not one of those guys that looks to please the world, I’m just happy with what I can do.”

Taking to social media, Tyson’s fans praised his performance, insisting that he won the fight despite the scorecards showing otherwise. “@jakepaul might have won on the scoreboard, but @MikeTyson won by heart.

At twice Paul’s age, he stood tall, never got knocked down, and lasted the entire 8 rounds. One X user commented, “That’s pure grit and determination – a true ——- proving age is just a number.”

Another said, “He lost by four points on the official scorecard.” He is 31 years older than his opponent and more than twice his age. Jake Paul was not knocked out and completely destroyed, so he is the loser.”
