Missing lady found dead in Busse Woods identified; police conducting death investigation

A death investigation continued Sunday after a missing woman was discovered dead in a north suburban wooded area on Saturday morning, according to police.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the body as Atalia Pucheta Martinez, 23. She had gone missing from Mount Prospect.

Elk Grove Village police said Saturday that a motorist saw a person lying in Busse Woods near Higgins Road, about a mile west of Arlington Heights Road, around 9:30 a.m.

Mount Prospect police said they responded to the 1400 block of Brownstone Court just before 2 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a missing woman who matched the description of the woman found dead earlier in the forest preserve near Elk Grove Village. Martinez, who had gone missing, was discovered dead.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department and the Cook County Forest Preserve Police are currently conducting a death investigation alongside the police departments of Elk Grove Village and Mount Prospect.

Martinez’s cause of death has not yet been determined by the medical examiner.

Police said again. On Sunday, there was no active threat to the community, and the incident was isolated.
