According to Lone Star State law enforcement, a Texas lady was recently arrested for purposefully leaving her 16-month-old child unaccompanied in order to go out of town and visit a man she met on a dating app.

The Killeen Police Department has charged 25-year-old Reese Louise Myers with one count of abandoning or endangering a child.

The defendant was captured earlier this month on a fugitive warrant in the Inland Empire region of Southern California, close to the small city of Barstow, where the incident took place in the middle of the summer. This week, she returned to Texas.

According to a Killeen authorities Department spokesperson, authorities were called to an apartment on West Hallmark Avenue late on July 28 to check on the welfare of a child in Killeen, a sizable city located roughly 70 miles north of Austin.

According to a statement from the department, officers were informed that a child was loitering close to a shattered window and that an aggressive dog was attempting to harm the child.

The authorities found a toddler sticking out of a window that had been patched with cardboard and plexiglass sheeting. It wasn’t broken.

According to police, the boy was found inside the apartment by himself, wearing only a T-shirt. Additionally, the toddler reportedly had a noticeable diaper rash and feces on their skin.

According to the police department’s search report, officers swept the flat and found the toddler alone, save for two dogs. When officers got in touch with the child’s mother, she told them she was in San Antonio right now and had been there since the previous day.

Killeen is around 160 kilometers to the southwest of San Antonio.

After being transported to a neighboring hospital, the youngster was turned over to the state’s youngster Protection Services.

Myers allegedly told police that she had come to the Alamo City to see a man she met on Hinge, according to an arrest affidavit that Waco-based Fox affiliate KWKT was able to get.

According to police reports, the mother claimed to have left her child with a babysitter she had found on Facebook. To find out what the alleged babysitter had to say about the incident, police conducted an investigation.

After that, officers contacted the babysitter, who informed them that, according to the inquiry, she had previously watched the suspect in December of last year and had not spoken to her since. When she showed her Facebook communications to the officers, none of them were from after December 2023.

Additionally, according to law authorities, Myers meant to leave her son alone because of the way the house was set up and structured.

Precautions are said to have been obvious, with most doors closed, a baby gate blocking the kitchen area, the deadbolt on the door locked, and every other window locked and shut with the exception of the seemingly makeshift-closed one the boy was seen hanging from.

According to the police department, officers instructed the mother to go back to Killeen.

Allegedly, that request was not met. On November 5, Myers was taken into custody by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office.

According to arrest records in California, the defendant was apprehended somewhere on the sprawling Fort Irwin Army Base, which is approximately 1,365 miles from Killeen.
