Two adolescents were shot in a drive-by shooting in October of last year when they were making their way home from their Kennedy Heights bus stop. Eli Dallio, 16, was one of those boys who was shot in the head.

Thankfully, Eli’s injuries were not fatal. The other adolescent lived through his injuries as well.

That he is still alive is a miracle. Charnchia Diallo, Eli’s mother, said she believed that God would protect her kid.

On January 29, precisely three months after being shot, Eli returned home after spending around a month and a half in the intensive care unit.

According to Charnchia, he is unable to walk, speak, or use his left hand or side, but he is unable to use anything on his right side. And his vision is poor.

Before being shot, Eli was a high school football player who also worked for the local UDF.

More than 60 people showed out for his 17th birthday celebration at the hospital, proving that his mother described him as a great boy who is well-loved by many.

It has been an emotional rollercoaster because, according to her, my son didn’t deserve this.

According to Charnchia, her son has had difficulties ever since he came home. “He often cries because he can’t see or communicate with his family effectively,” she said.

She added that because he was shot less than a block from his house, he gets terrified sometimes.

However, Eli is not the only victim of the shooting.

“This was seen by my daughter,” Charnchia stated.

Charnchia said her daughter refused to go to school for several months. Fearing a negative outcome, she continues to refuse to walk to the bus stop.

Eli has been at home for almost a week, receiving full-time care from his mother.

He requires a companion at all times. “It’s been a big change in my life because he can’t be left alone,” Charnchia said. He prevents me from working, but I don’t mind because that’s my baby.

Even with sporadic help from relatives, Charnchia is finding it difficult to make ends meet without a work and growing medical expenses.

Charnchia says, “I’m having trouble paying my bills and I’m barely making it.”

She said that because Eli has multiple medical machines, she must keep the lights on and that her phone must be on in case of an emergency.

We questioned Charnchia about the things she and her family needed help with.

According to Charnchia, I need assistance with a ramp and would really appreciate assistance with a wheelchair-access van so that I can get him to appointments. He has a lot of appointments that I need to get him to.

Eli finds it challenging to enter the house because of his present ramp’s steep elevation and incomplete coverage of the steps. It is often necessary to carry him and his chair up.

Because she cannot afford it, Charnchia’s car is also temporarily uninsured.

To assist with Eli’s recuperation, she has created a GoFundMe page. You can click here to make a donation to help with Eli’s requirements and medical expenses.
