Prosecutors have added more accusations against a Mountain View barber who has eluded justice after being implicated in several alleged sexual assaults involving unconscious victims.
An amended indictment against Franklin Enrique Sarceno Orla, 34, was filed this week, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office confirmed to CBS News Bay Area on Wednesday. Sarceno Orla had secured $250,000 bond when he was first taken into custody in late August.
According to court documents, he was supposed to show up on October 29 for a plea hearing. In November, prosecutors first alerted the public in the hopes of locating Sarceno Orla.
In July, Mountain View police opened an inquiry when a man claimed that after drinking with Sarceno Orla, he woke up feeling disoriented and hurt. According to forensic testing, the individual had experienced sexual assault.
A second victim informed authorities that the suspect was his barber and that he had passed out while drinking beer with him.
Prosecutors accused Sarceno Orla of 55 charges in the amended complaint, including many counts of sexual assault, sexual battery, and giving an intoxicating substance with the purpose to commit a felony. Sarceno Orla is HIV positive, according to the complaint filed this week, which also named 25 victims of alleged assaults that began in 2018.
According to police, several of the assaults were captured on camera, and the victims were either unconscious or extremely drunk.
They requested anyone who thinks they could have been a victim to contact the Mountain View Police Department via email at Detective Lauren RiffelorDetective Guillermo de Lira or by phone at 650-903-6618. Additionally, potential victims were encouraged to be checked for sexually transmitted illnesses by calling their doctor.
If Sarceno Orla is apprehended and found guilty, prosecutors added, he might spend the rest of his life behind bars.
