According to authorities, a California couple is charged with the abuse, torture, and murder of their adopted son, who was brought to a hospital in medical distress before passing away a few hours later.

Alejandra Marin, 51, and Juan Sanchez Moreno, 59, have been taken into custody by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office on felony murder and torture charges, which include one count of deliberately causing or enabling injury to a child.

Following an investigation, the pair was taken into custody by the department’s Central Homicide Unit and Special Victims Unit on Friday, November 22.

An RCSO press statement states that on November 21, officers were called to a residence in the 13000 block of Malibu Court in Moreno Valley for a 10-year-old kid who was experiencing medical distress. After locating the boy, the officers stabilized him and took him to a local hospital.

Associated coverage:

After a few hours, the juvenile’s health worsened, and the sheriff’s office declared him dead at the hospital. Given the circumstances, the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit took up the case.

According to police, SVU and the sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit found obvious evidence of abuse and neglect in the case. How the couple tormented the boy is unknown.

The juvenile’s adopted parents, Alejandra Marin, 51, and Juan Sanchez Moreno, 59, were arrested for murder, torture, and child abuse as a result of the combined investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to jail records, the pair was detained without bond on Sunday at Riverside’s Robert Presley Detention Center. The public does not yet have access to Moreno’s case files, but Marin is due to appear in court on Tuesday.
