NAPA On Saturday, the Napa Salvation Army made history when they found a rare gold coin in one of their red kettles that was valued at thousands of dollars.
As part of the season of giving, volunteers from Kiwanis of Greater Napa were working at a local grocery store when they discovered a one-ounce South African Krugerrand gold coin in a kettle.
Captain Larry Carmichael, Corps Officer of the Salvation Army of Napa, stated, “We are immensely appreciative of this kind and considerate gift.” It serves as a reminder of the amazing influence one individual can have and the strength of community. We can affect lives with every donation, no matter how big or small.
The one-ounce coin is worth thousands of dollars, and Krugerrands are valued for their purity and quality, according to the Salvation Army.
In addition to providing culinary training and helping families stay warm and sheltered during the cold months, the Red Kettle Campaign assists the Salvation Army of Napa in serving over 40,000 meals annually.
Both in-person and online donations are accepted, and all proceeds remain local.
