After a chase with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 16-year-old driver was killed and a young passenger got hurt in a collision.
The NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) reports that a trooper tried to pull down a white Chrysler 300 that was speeding on I-40 East in Johnston County on Friday night.
According to NCSHP, the 16-year-old refused to stop and kept speeding east on I-40.
The trooper lost sight of the sedan when it went into Baker Street in Four Oaks, but he followed it as it exited onto US-301 North.
The car was ultimately found on Hockaday Road by another policeman. It had hit a tree after going over the center line.
The driver did not wear a seatbelt and died instantly. The NCSHP reports that a young traveler was treated for minor wounds.
