A New York man has reportedly been charged with murder following his father’s death at a luxurious hotel in Ireland.

According to The Irish Times, BBC, and local broadcast station RTÉ News, Irish officials accused Henry McGowan, 30, with the murder of his father, 60-year-old John McGowan, who was discovered dead at the 5-star hotel Ballyfin Demesne in County Laois, Ireland, on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

According to reports, John sustained significant injuries as a result of an assault in the hotel’s leisure area and was later pronounced dead.

Local police — known as ‘Garda’ in Ireland — told PEOPLE that they arrived at the hotel about 8 p.m. on Nov. 12 and discovered a 60-year-old male “deceased.” They then detained a 30-year-old guy “at a Garda station in the Eastern Region.”

The Garda did not release the names of anyone involved, and the circumstances of the death are still being investigated. They stated that the Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist were collaborating with the investigation.

Henry, who lives in Brooklyn, New York, went before Ireland’s Portlaoise District Court on Thursday, Nov. 15, where his lawyer, Barry Fitzgerald, informed the court that client was suffering from major mental health issues, according to the BBC and The Irish Times.

Fitzgerald also sought that the guy be assessed psychiatrically while in detention at Cloverhill Prison, which Judge Andrew Cody consented to.

The Ireland Courts Service did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on this case.

Henry’s next court date is scheduled for November 18.
