Nine states in the United States experienced earthquakes at the same time

What seismic activity is occurring in the US this month?

We’ve already witnessed a significant earthquake in Alaska and a massive one in Northern California this month, and now nine different U.S. states are being affected simultaneously.

Nine U.S. states—California, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Texas, Kansas, Alaska, New Mexico, and Washington—saw simultaneous earthquakes this past weekend.

A week after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Northern California that prompted a tsunami warning, the shocks happened. Living close to a fault line is going to be frightening.

The locations where earthquakes occurred during the weekend in the United States are shown in a photograph.

At the same time, nine different U.S. states were impacted.

Although some worry that an increase in earthquakes could be a sign of a bigger one, one expert said that this is typical behavior.

A USGS spokesperson told Newsweek that a brief rise or fall in seismicity is a typical variation in earthquake rates. A global increase or drop does not necessarily portend the imminence of a major earthquake.

Thankfully, none of this weekend’s earthquakes were strong enough to inflict any damage. They all had magnitudes between 3.0 and 4.0, according to reports.

When looking at earthquake data over the past 30 days, next to California, earthquakes seemed to strike most frequently in Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Texas and Oklahoma, according to Newsweek.

The strongest earthquakes have struck California and Nevada in the past week. There was little chance of any harm from the Friday morning shocks.

Everyone, stay safe out there. If an earthquake occurs, make sure you have a plan in place.
