Despite her reputation for trying to regulate contentious discussions on The View, longtime presenter Whoopi Goldberg found it difficult to control her own emotions during the most recent episode of the show.
Goldberg reacted to a video of Pete Hegseth’s mother rescinding an email to her son in which she called him a woman abuser while talking about Donald Trump’s controversial candidacy of Fox News star Hegseth for defense secretary, according to TV Insider.
Did she say, “They are no longer true?” According to Goldberg, that was true at one point. She seemed really upset, and then she said, You know what? I refuse to let these people cause me anxiety.
Hegseth’s previous comments disparaging women in combat were also addressed by Goldberg.
As the audience cheered, she added, “I really wanted to wait and see how he came at the four-star generals that are women.”
These individuals said, “You know what? My calling is this. The 69-year-old actor went on to say, “They made the decision to come out and fight.” Are you going to convince them that they aren’t capable of defending their country?
With a message for her female admirers, Goldberg concluded the episode.
We have you covered, so don’t worry. We have you, ladies. You eliminate half of the population when you eliminate us, or the women. I don’t think that’s a wise decision.
