Oakland police are looking into a hit-and-run that occurred Wednesday afternoon between an AC Transit bus and a car, leaving four passengers aboard the bus with minor injuries, according to transit authorities.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, AC Transit reports that a Tempo-Line 1T bus was traveling south in the bus-only lane on International Boulevard as it approached the intersection of 94th Avenue. The bus was granted the right-of-way by a green light.
According to transit officials, a dark-colored passenger car veered left from the next lane as the bus, which was approaching the crossing at roughly 25 mph, entered. The car cut right in front of the bus, causing a collision, according to officials.
When Oakland police officers got to the scene of the collision, they discovered that the car that struck the bus had driven away. Paramedics arrived on the site to treat several bus passengers, according to police confirmation. According to AC Transit, four passengers were sent to a nearby hospital for assessment after suffering minor injuries.
According to transit officials, every other passenger departed the crossing on their own. According to AC Transit, the collision did not interrupt service on the Tempo-Line 1T.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, AC Transit’s law enforcement partner, and Oakland police are conducting an investigation to find the hit-and-run driver. According to the police, it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role in this collision.
According to the police, the event is still being investigated. Please call the Oakland Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit at (510) 777-8570 if you have any information. It is requested that anyone has images or videos that could help with the investigation send them to [email protected].
