A 22-year-old man is charged with raping a 16-year-old girl after she contacted him for a cellphone charger, according to court records.

The offense was reported to the Oakland police in two stages. The girl’s mother first reported her daughter missing to authorities, and while an officer was taking the mother’s report, the girl texted her mother that she had been sexually assaulted and needed help, according to court records.

Eric Eugene Conley Jr., 22, of Oakland, has been charged with rape, forcible oral copulation, forcible sodomy, and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

A court record says this. He told the judge on Nov. 4 that he was not guilty, and his bail hearing is set for Nov. 19.

It was said that a sexual assault happened in April 2023, but no charges were brought this year. Court records show that they were based on the girl recognizing Conley from a picture and a DNA match from a rape test kit.

Police were told that the girl knew Conley from social media and had called him to ask for a phone charger because her phone’s battery was dying.

Police say that when he arrived in a car, he persuaded her to get in with him, and the two of them drove to a different part of Oakland.

On the way, the girl reportedly told police that she was worried about her safety and thought about kids who are taken and never seen or heard from again.

However, she was too scared to say anything. Conley is said to have sexually assaulted her when they got to their destination and put a pillow over her face to drown out her cries.

In March of last year, Conley was arrested in connection with a shooting on Interstate 580. Reports from the time say that police identified him as a member of an East Bay gang.
