Oakland shooting Wednesday morning leaves one dead

Authorities confirmed that Oakland police are looking into a shooting death that occurred in the city’s Melrose neighborhood on Wednesday morning.

The Oakland Police Department states that after several ShotSpotter activations and gunfire reports, officers were sent to the 1200 block of 49th Ave. shortly after 7 a.m. Officers discovered a person who had been shot at least once.

Police claimed that after paramedics arrived on the scene to help and take the person to a nearby hospital, the man was “unfortunately pronounced deceased.”

After taking over the case, OPD homicide detectives started looking into the shooting’s circumstances.

In order to notify the victim’s next of kin, the victim’s identity is being kept secret. No other information about the shooting was made public.
