One dead in early morning fire at East Oakland warehouse

Firefighters reported that a fire that started early Monday morning at a warehouse in East Oakland had claimed one life.

The Oakland Fire Department was summoned to a warehouse located on the 10,000 block of Russet Street just after 5:45 a.m.

Within four minutes, firefighters were on the scene. About 6 a.m., a second alert was ordered.

By 6:15 a.m., with over 40 firefighters on the scene, the fire was under control and had not spread to any neighboring structures. According to the fire service, the fire was contained before seven in the morning.

Firefighters reported finding a deceased person’s body when inspecting the building. The coroner and police were called to the spot.

Information regarding the dead person was not immediately available.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
