A man was fatally shot on W42nd Street between 8th and 9th Avenues late Wednesday night, in a violent incident on a busy Midtown block connecting Hell’s Kitchen and Times Square.
According to police, the shooting occurred at 10:45pm outside 345 W42nd Street, between the 7-Eleven and Holy Cross Church. Marco Reyes, a 30-year-old man from the Bronx, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported in critical condition by EMS to Bellevue Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police blocked off the street in both directions while officers combed the area with flashlights, searching for evidence late into the night.
Hell’s Kitchen local Ana Young told W42ST she had been walking along W42nd Street when she heard the gunfire.
“I was on the corner there when I hear two shots, and I’m like, that sounds like a firework” she said. Ana continued on, looking towards where she heard the shots, and saw a man running towards 8th Avenue. She then saw two people standing around a man on the sidewalk and asked others nearby if they had heard the sounds — they confirmed it was gunshots.
No arrests have been made, and the NYPD investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
We will update this story as more information becomes available.
