After he reportedly shot his parents and adolescent siblings and then called 911 while intoxicated to confess to the quadruple homicide, police claimed they detained a 16-year-old kid from New Mexico on Saturday morning.
Diego Leyva is charged with first-degree murder for the horrifying massacre, which occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. before the murder suspect contacted the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office, according to a news release from the New Mexico State Police.
Authorities claim that the teenager told a dispatcher over the phone that he had slain his family before leaving with his hands in the air when deputies arrived at his Belen house.
Despite being severely drunk, Leyva was taken into custody without any problems, according to state police.
Police said they found a firearm on the kitchen table.
According to KRQE and law enforcement, the suspect’s 14-year-old brother, Alexander Leyva, his 42-year-old father, Leonardo Leyva, his 35-year-old mother, Adriana Bencomo, and his 16-year-old sister, Adrian Leyva, were all discovered dead inside the house with gunshot wounds.
According to investigators, the suspected murderer was placed into an Albuquerque juvenile detention center early on Sunday after being sent to a neighboring hospital for detoxification.
The possibility that the teenage boy was behind the horrible killings astounded a former educator.
Educator Vanessa LaGrange told the Guardian, “I never would have imagined that something like this would happen and that Diego would be capable of doing something like this.” Everyone is stunned.
The cause of the homicidal rampage is still being investigated by the state police investigative department.
