A man has been charged with murder for reportedly killing his 7-month-old son in Homestead.

As per the police report, Daniel Nasir Griffiths, 23, was charged with second-degree murder on Thursday after admitting that he hurt the baby and killed him.

Homestead police said they were called to Baptist Health Homestead Hospital on October 1 after the child’s maternal grandmother brought him there from Griffith’s apartment complex in Key Cove.

The baby had several broken bones and a brain bleed. It died a few days later, on Oct. 4. An autopsy showed that he died from injuries caused by direct force.

Yolanda Felton, the grandma, said on Friday that she still can’t believe it.

Felton said, “I have no words, I really have no words.” “Very numb, it doesn’t seem real.” Reading about these people all the time makes this happen right in front of me. I feel like I’m asleep.

Felton said that her daughter had called her to ask her to pick up Daniel Nasir Griffiths Jr. from the father’s house because he said the baby would fuss and then go back to sleep.

Felton said, “He said he hasn’t known what’s wrong with him all day because he’s been acting strange.”

When she put her grandson in the car, she saw that his legs were hurt and knew something wasn’t right. She took him to the hospital at that point.

She said, “It’s just numbing to know that someone could do that to a child, to a defenseless child. I trusted him.” “Every time I saw him, I thought about what I would lose.” To see my face, to be there, and to know that you did this. Like what you’re about to do to me, it hurts.

Police say that Griffiths gave different versions of where he was while he was caring for the child during the investigation.

An arrest report says that Griffiths went to the Miami-Dade Police Department on Thursday, almost two weeks after the baby’s death, to make a statement.

The report says Griffiths “knowingly and willingly waived his right to have a lawyer represent him and subsequently provided a detailed statement of his actions that critically injured the victim and ultimately led to his death.”

Griffiths was taken to jail and was due to go to bond court on Friday. Information about the lawyer wasn’t provided.
